LYST opens in Haringey

15.05.2007

Following on the success of the LYST business incubation centres in Deptford and Hackney, our latest units are now up and running in Haringey. Located in the Bernie Grant Arts Centre complex in Tottenham, it is home to 19 young new entrepreneurs. The high cost of rented work space in the Capital means that starting your own business is particularly hard, so the opportunity to rent subsidised space is particularly welcome. Cliff Dobbs, who brings a wealth of experience from the Prince’s Trust where he provided business advice to disadvantaged youngsters starting-up on their own has been appointed manager. The units are nearly all now occupied. The range of young Haringey residents who are starting new businesses at this centre are very varied, reflecting the diverse skills and enthusiasm in the Borough. They include musicians, a carpenter, a provider of publishing training and a kilt maker. Our aim is that with Cliff’s advice and contacts and the wider support from the LYST network the rent subsidies will be reduced as these businesses grow. As these businessmen and women become firmly established, in due course, other young residents will take their place.
